About Metrolina Library Association

The Association was founded in 1969. It combines the former Mecklenburg Library Association and the former Metrolina Library Association. It is made up of librarians and paraprofessionals from public, academic, school and special libraries and of other individuals interested in libraries to:

  • Encourage and foster awareness and cooperation.
  • Provide opportunities for social interaction among members.
  • Provide continuing education opportunities.
  • Encourage cooperation, networking, and resource sharing among libraries in the Metrolina area.

Statement from Executive Board

The Metrolina Library Association’s Executive Board reaffirms the values emphasized in our mission statement: awareness, cooperation, social interaction, continuing education, and sharing. We use these values to lead by example in our respective communities and stay committed to preserving our libraries as safe spaces and places of welcome. Our spaces and resources allow us and our users endless possibilities to foster curiosity, literacy, learning, inclusion, diversity, equality, and civil dialogue. Now, more than ever, librarians must safeguard these values to ensure libraries remain dynamic places devoted to education, intellectual freedom, equal access, and opportunity for all. We are stronger and better when we work together to achieve our common goals which will, ultimately, lead to a healthier democracy.
